When playing with middle irons and putters, the feet should be shoulder width apart. In the case of short irons the feet should be closer together, while remaining wider for long irons and woods.
The golfer needs to choose a ‘stroke’ according to the distance being played. A ‘drive’ is used in long distance shots, while an ‘approach’ is used in mid distance shots. He must choose a ‘chip’ to play short distance shots, to land the ball on the green with minimal strikes. A ‘putt’ is used to play short distance shots.

Similarly buying good quality golf balls needn’t cost the earth. Although lake balls’ can be erratic as you’re never quite sure how long they’ve been sat in their watery depository before being recovered, there are plenty of brand-new balls that will do the job without breaking the bank.

A golf bag in which to carry your clubs is essential, but will probably be supplied with most brand new half-sets or full-sets of clubs. The other absolute essential and one that is overlooked is a copy of the rules. There aren’t too many to master but there is also a golf etiquette that must be observed at all times and a good copy of the rules will also include an indication of how to behave.

Once you have your equipment, a copy of the rules tucked away in your bag, and mastered the golf swing basics; you’ll be all set to step out onto the golf course and an enjoyable eighteen holes!
