Football Kit From Past to Present
Football is a brilliant game which is continually gaining its popularity worldwide. It is a sport which has twenty two players playing in the field. All the players showcase their skills just to win this physically strong game. Nevertheless, every player should have a football kit.Football kits do not only refer to the uniforms and jerseys being used in the football games. It refers to the overall things that the football players use during the games. The kits of football players have already evolved as the time goes by. One very visible proof to this is the growing popularity of the football shirts. In fact, not only football players can have the kits in football but also the football aficionados.Football uniforms as well as kits are not really included on the rules of football when it became an official sport in the 1880s. Indeed, players can wear whatever they want to wear during a football game before. They are free to use anything they want to use either for their comfort or just to have their own style. As a matter of fact, the early players of football wear only plain white shirts as their playing gear. It is on this period of time that football is only being played by wealthy men.The first kits used were the garish and brash uniforms. These uniforms were blue, claret, and salmon pink in color. It was actually used by public school students. At that time, they have decided to have football uniforms to distinguish one team from the other. As the time goes by more and more people were astonished by the football games. It actually came to a point when class people made the football as their hobby. As a result, the kits associated with the game per se also evolved. With the continuous evolution of football, its equipment as well as kits was also improved. The uniforms became more gaudy and colorful. Shorts and socks were also included on the kit. Indeed, after so many years, the kits connected to football became more fashionable.During the 1990s, smaller shorts and slim-fitting football shirts became the trend in the football world. More exciting and bold colors were being preferred by many players as well as football lovers and fans. As a matter of fact, in today’s time, many kits are made available and became a part of the economy of almost all the football clubs. The kits have exciting colors, designs, style, and comfortable textile materials. Thus, there is a wide range of kits to choose from. The very evident thing here is that as the football becomes widely popular in the whole world, all the kits associated with the said sport also undergo improvement. Aside from that, those kits can also be acquired by many football fans to show their love and support for their favorite football team. Hence, it is safe to say that the football kit from past to present has truly evolved in terms of style, design, color and textile.
Football Kicking Drills
Often football games come down to the bitter end. It’s not uncommon for a game to be decided in the last few minutes and often the game comes down to a field goal. A made or a missed field anytime during a game could decide the outcome of that game. However, a made or a missed field goal near the end of the game will almost certainly mean the difference between losing and winning. Making field goals is very important to every team. So, football kicking drills that help a kicker improve are equally important. No Step KickingProper body position and technique are critical in kicking the ball for distance. In order to build-up strength and develop proper form, all kickers should perform No Step Kicking as one of their football kicking drills. As the name suggests, this drill simply asks a kicker to kick the ball without running up to it. The kicker should just stand over the ball, with the plant foot (non-kicking foot) a football’s length from the ball and the toe even with the ball. Then the kicker should kick the ball. The toes on the plant foot need to be even with the ball so that the drill will work properly. Obviously a kicker doesn’t want to plant his/her foot here when actually kicking field goals. At first the ball will not fly very far. However, the kicker should concentrate on proper body position, proper contact, and proper follow through and slowly the kicks will get better. The kicker will also notice a difference in accuracy and length after leaving the drill to kick actual field goals. One Step KickingThis drill builds from the other drill but the kicker takes one step.To start this drill the kicker should kick a regular field goal. Then he should see where his last step, just before kicking the ball, was from. That should be where each subsequent kick begins. From that spot the kicker should take a step and kick the ball while concentrating on all the same things as in the One Step Kicking Drill.Across the Field KickingMost kickers don’t aim to put the ball between the uprights, they actually aim to kick the ball on an imaginary line. That’s why Across the Field Kicking is another one of the great football kicking drills. For this drill, the kicker kicks the balls across the field from sideline to sideline. The kicker will place the ball on a line (a tee or a holder can be used). Then the kicker will try to kick the ball (in the air) across the field while keeping it even with the line where the ball was originally placed.Bad Hold KickingInevitably something will go wrong when kicking one or more extra points and field goals. Either there will be a bad snap or a bobble by the holder that results in a bad hold. For these times, there is a football kicking drill that can be practiced. For the Bad Hold Kicking Drill, the kicker uses a tee and practices kicking the ball from several different odd positions. This will give the kicker some idea where and how to kick a ball when the hold is bad.In the End All That CountsKickers have to be mentally tough because of the pressure they are put under at the end of games. A kicker often sits for most of a game and is then asked to win the game for the team. If the kicker is mentally strong and he practices the right football kicking drills then he should be able to nail that game-winning field goal.

Football Formations
Football formations and positions are a very important part of the game of soccer. Every team has their own unique formation and style of playing, depending on the skills and abilities of their players, but these football formations are based on certain blueprints that have been around for many years. The soccer formations that are most commonly employed by teams have evolved over many years, and in fairness, they are sure to evolve yet again.
Each team has a distinct style of play, and based on this they come up with their own versions of offensive football formations and defensive football formations. This is the area where the manager earns his money, and a game of soccer can only be won by tweaking the soccer formations to make full use of one’s own strengths and by exploiting the other teams weaknesses.
The most basic of all soccer formations is the 4-4-2. Once, you understand the nomenclature you can start seeing the relevance of all formations and soccer field positions. The first ’4′ signifies the four players in defense, the second ’4′ points to the four midfield players, and the ’2′ signifies the two strikers. This is the way all soccer formations are denoted.
The 4-4-2
As mentioned before, this is one of the most basic football formations, and almost all soccer teams use this or a derivation of this. Using 4 players in defense has become the norm nowadays as it allows the 2 players on each wide side (the full backs) to assist in attack as well. It is assumed that the opposing teams full backs will also push ahead, so these players have a very important dual role to fulfill, while the two center backs sit deep. Playing 2 strikers also gives a team an added attacking impetus, as one of them can drift wide or drop deep into midfield as well.
The 4-1-2-1-2
Also known as the ‘diamond’ formation, this is a highly tactful way to set out a team. The most advanced of the 4 midfield players is known as the ‘trequartista’ and he is usually the most skillful and creative player on the team. All the moves go through him and he is the focal point of all attacks. This is a comparatively narrow formation, and the full backs have to work harder as a result, to provide width for the team. The withdrawn midfield player is the defensive midfielder or the holding midfielder, and he rarely ventures forward.
The 4-3-3
Out of all the football formations and strategies, this one is the most dynamic and fluid. This is the formation that Rinus Michaels adopted for the legendary ‘Total Football’ style of play. This is also the formation that is highly mobile and attack minded teams like FC Barcelona and Arsenal FC adopt. This formation requires highly skillful players who are constantly on the move. They must constantly swap positions to cover for each other, and there is usually one target striker who plays alone up front. The two supporting players attack from the flanks, while the 3 midfield players sit in the middle of the park and create and control the game.
The 4-5-1
This is the antithesis to the 4-3-3 and is considered the defensive version of that particular formation. The target striker plays alone, and the two wide players drop back into midfield to support the team when they are on the defensive. This gives the midfield a strength of 5, and it is very useful while defending. The 4-3-3 and the 4-5-1 always go hand in hand, and it changes depending on the situation in a particular match. Read more on soccer defensive tactics.
The 4-1-3-2
This is an altered version of the 4-4-2, and it requires one of the central midfielders to drop between the midfield line and the defensive line. This is a football formation mastered by the Spanish national team that won the Euro 2008 tournament in some style. It again demands a lot of fluidity and mobility from the 3 midfield players who must push ahead to support the strikers. The width is again provided by the full backs. Read more on soccer positions.
The WM
This is one of the outdated football formations, that used to be in vogue in the 1920′s. Nomenclature wise, this formation can be denoted as a 3-2-2-3. When seen on the football pitch it resembled a W and an M, and hence the name. There are primarily 3 attackers and 3 defenders, and the 4 midfield players used to play in a square shape. As time passed, the use of width in games became more and more popular, and thus, this formation slowly became obsolete.

Soccer Strategies and Tactics
There are many more soccer formations that exist, but they can all be simplified down to the basic blueprints given here. Some coaches even come up with their own versions of these soccer formations, but these are highly dependent on the players performing the tasks that they have been given. Football is a collective game, and the success of all football formations depends on how well the players can cover for each other and understand each others roles.
Football Field Size
Some might say that, why does a quarterback, that too very good at his job, need to know about how many inches does some end line measure? But then, I would say that being a player, it is always good and beneficial to know the rules of the game inside out and be thorough with it, right? It surely gives you an advantage if you know the rules of the game (helps you bend the rules!). This applies to all the sports and American Football, the American version of Rugby is no exception to that. But on a serious note, if you are an American football enthusiast, I am sure you would find the details on a football field size useful.
Professional Football Field Dimensions
General Dimensions
If you take the playing area of the field, it is 360 feet in length and 160 feet in width. Normally these are the same at all the levels.
End Zone
The end zones at almost all the levels are almost 10 yards deep.
End Line
A 6 foot end line border is used to demarcate the back of the end zone.
Restraining Line
NFL fields have a 6 feet line next to the side lines, which designate the nearest the non-active players are allowed to be on the field.
Field Numbers
In NFL, the field numbers measure 6 feet high and 4 feet wide.
Hash Marks
Amongst the hash marks on the football fields on different levels, the hash marks on fields for professional football are the thinnest. The two rows of lines near the center of the field marked off in one-yard increments are referred to as hash marks. From the sidelines they measure 70 feet and 9 inches and their width is 18 feet.
Benches
These are where the substitutes and reserves sit. These are put along the restraining line in between the middle yard markers.
Goal Posts
For the National Football League (NFL), the goal posts are 10 feet high and 18 feet, 6 inches in width. After this low down on NFL football field size, coming up are the football field measurements for high school games. Before we get to the football field dimensions, let me tell you that most of them are the same as the professional league, barring a few exceptions.
High School Football Field Dimensions
Overall Dimensions
The playing area is 360 feet in length and 160 feet in width. The longer lines are called the sidelines and the shorter ones are called the end lines.
End Zone
The depth of end zone, the scoring area is 10 yards, rather it extends beyond each goal line to each end line.
End Line
The back of the end zone is marked by a 6 foot end line border.
Restraining Line
In all high school football games, there is a 6 foot restraining line besides the sidelines.
Field Numbers
The field numbers for the side lines are around 4 feet wide and 6 feet high in all high school ties.
Hash Marks
When it comes to football field size, specially hash marks, they are the widest. The uniqueness of high school football games is that the width of hash marks is 53 feet and 4 inches. This is a prominent feature when it comes to the size of football field for high school clashes. Read more on American football rules.
Benches
Along the restraining line, there are team benches placed, which fall between the 30 yard markers.
Goal Posts
Okay the measurements of goal posts for high school distinctly vary from the NFL games. So the goal posts for high school measure 10 feet high and 23 feet 4 inches wide.
Gosh! That was a lot of feet and inches! But if you really want to memorize these, just remember the hash marks and goal posts which are different as far as high school football is concerned!
That’s it, this is where I call full time for football field size!
Football Field Diagram
American football is one of the most popular games in the United States. With events such as the Super Bowl and several movies made on the game, American football has well and truly entered the American psyche. It is a game played passionately at NFL, College football and high school football level across the whole country and attracts the largest audiences as well. In fact, it is claimed that the Super Bowl has been one of the most watched programs on television for several years now. So you want to learn how to play football? Perhaps you can start by knowing the exact dimensions on the football field diagram.
Football Field Layout
The football field as you may have noticed, consists of several lines running on it and several markings, as well. What do these markings mean? And what does a football field diagram look like?
The Basic Pitch Size
American Football is typically played on a rectangular field which has a length of 360 ft and breadth of 160 ft. The longer lines are known as the sidelines and the shorter lines are known as the end lines. The game has to be played within this playing area itself. The point of the game is to score points by advancing the ball into the opposition’s end zone (explained below)
The Lines
American football is also knows as gridiron because the various markings on the pitch make it look like a grid. There are horizontal lines across the breadth of the pitch every 5 yards and the numbering is given every 10 yards to denote the distance from the end zone. There are also hash marks within the 5 yard lines, each one a yard away from the other. 2 sets of hash marks run down the pitch each one 53 ft 4 in away from the sidelines. So basically, there are marks at ever yard, a breadth line every 5 yards and a number every 10 yards
The Numbering
The numbering starts from the goal-line (G) and continues over every yard i.e. 10, 20, 30, 40, 50. When the numbers reach 50, they go backwards again as 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 denoting the distance left till the end zone.
End Zones
The end zones are located 30 ft from the end line on either side. A touch down is said to be scored (which wins the team 6 points), when players, breaks through the opposition defense and and enters the end zone with the ball in his hand.
Restraining Lines
Restraining lines are 6 ft behind the sidelines and are the closest that non-playing members of the football team can come while the game is in progress.
Goal Post
The goal in American Football is a pitchfork shaped bars at the end of each end zone. The structure in total is 20 ft tall and 18 ft 6 in wide (23 ft 4 in for high school). But the goal can be scored only when the ball is kicked through the top 10 ft of the goal, ‘through’ the pitchfork.

Remember that theres money involved, and if you dont want to lose your hard earned money, you have to become aware of football gambling tips (found below) and employ them:
Foot Ball Wagering Tip #1: Wager with value.
Wagering with value is a very important strategy that should be utilized by each and every football bettor, whether he or she is just a newbie bettor, or an expert bettor. To bet with value, you have to consider all the betting odds from various books and then, choose which one will give you the best value.
For instance, when youre betting on football and you believe that the home team has about fifty percent winning chance, you should only place football bets on that team if the odds are at least 2.00 or higher. If the odds are lower than this number, then, youll have a bigger chance of losing money. Remember that part of football betting strategies that work is betting with the use of logic, not just because of a hunch or just because of your emotions.
Foot Ball Wagering Tip #2: Do your homework before you make your wager.
Of course, one of the football gambling tips that you should never forget is to always do research – in other words, do your homework before placing your bets. This means checking the team stats, the player stats, previous performances of the competing teams prior to betting on football. By looking at all the performances of the team you are interested in and its enemy, youll see the trend and be able to decide whether betting on that specific team is a good idea. This strategy is actually one of the football betting strategies that has a connection with the tip mentioned above: betting logically – based on statistics, performance records, historical data, etc. Ask yourself: would you want to place football bets carelessly and end up losing your cash? If you dont, then follow the advice of doing your home work before betting on football.
Foot Ball Wagering Tip #3: Find out about other factors that can influence the match such as injury reports and climate changes.
Part of football gambling tips is doing some digging and learning about other essential factors that can make or break the game. An important factor is the number of injured players on your chosen team. If one or more of the teams best players have an injury, then, you should not be too confident about having a winning bet. Included in must know football betting strategies is this: check on the weather. You never know, your team may hail from a sunny state, and the game may be held at a cold state, which can have a big effect on the teams performance. Football Basics of Football
The National Football League (NFL) is the most widely broadcasted, watched and followed sporting series in the United States of America. You can enjoy it even more, if you have some in-depth knowledge about football basics. American football (or gridiron football) is a game that has become synonymous with American culture along with baseball, and has millions of fans within the country itself.
The game is quite elementary by nature, all one needs to do is make the football cross over the opponents end zone, and thus, outscore them. But the football basics that you will read here explain how this works, and what other terms and words mean in the world of American football.
The Basics of Football
As already mentioned, the aim of the game is to simply score more points than the opponent within the stipulated time period. Whichever team scores the most points by the game’s end, is the winning team. There are 4 ways in which a team can score points – a running play (by running over the end line with the ball in hand), a passing play (by receiving a pass from a teammate after you have crossed the end line), by tackling an opposition player over his own end line, or by kicking the ball between the two goal posts.
The game is divided into 4 quarters of 15 minutes each. In reality though, there are many pauses and timeouts in the game, so an actual match can go on for as much as 3 hours. American football basics states that if the scores are tied at the end of the 4th quarter, then an extra 15 minutes are played out. This carries on until one team has more points than the other team, at the end of those 15 minutes. These rules vary slightly at the level of college football.
Football Basics and Rules
The field of play is a rectangular sized area that is 360 feet x 160 feet. The length of the field on both sides are the side lines, and the boundaries of the width are the end lines. The end lines are the final boundary of the field, and they also house the end zone, an area that lies between the end lines and the goal lines. A player has to reach this end zone in order to score.
There are lines parallel to the end lines that run the entire length of the field, and the distance between each of these lines is 5 yards. The basics of football states that each yard line must be covered with a subsequent move and strategy, while inching closer to the end lines. Each team gets a total of 4 attempts to advance the ball by 10 yards (that is, 2 yard lines). This carries on till the team scores, or loses possession of the football. If the opposing team can force a turnover and gain possession, then the same principle of getting 4 attempts to advance by 10 yards applies to them as well.
The line in the center is known as the line of scrimmage, and this is where the game begins when the starting teams quarterback ‘snaps’ the ball back to a teammate and thus, sets a strategic piece of play into motion.

The number of players of each side that are on the field at any given time are 11, but a football squad consists of almost 50 players. Each player has different attributes and a different role to fulfill, so it’s not uncommon that all 50 players play a part during one game. Some players are more adept at offense, some at defense, whereas some others are specialty players. Since the number of substitutions that can be made in a game has no limits, it is possible for all the squad members to get a few minutes in the game. The basics of football are not hard to understand, and there are many books and websites that also help one learn many football basics in detail. The best way to learn the game though, is to simply play it as experience is the best teacher.
